Raylena Fields, a veteran journalist and former producer with CBS News in New York, has filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), saying that she was the target of racial discrimination at the network and alleging CBS fired her in retaliation after complaining about comments from anchor Bob Schieffer. "There is not one single African American person holding a rank above producer on any of CBS' eight separate broadcasts," she says in her EEOC complaint. A CBS spokesperson responded with this statement: "We strongly deny these allegations. Ms. Fields' employment was terminated for completely lawful reasons connected to a reshaping of the CBS EVENING NEWS under new leadership." NABJ is in contact with Fields and will investigate the charges.
