NEWARK, June 5 — During his unsuccessful campaign for Newark mayor four years ago, Cory Booker got a taste of some of the more sordid aspects of running for political office in New Jersey: dirty tricks, innuendo about his personal life and several shoving matches with opponents during public events. But after his election to the city's top office last month, law enforcement officials say Mr. Booker now has to endure one of the grimmer aspects of the political experience: a death threat that the police are taking so seriously that they have expanded his personal security team.
