| Now the great debate about the national anthem and how it should be sung in English — not Spanish |
|
Ok, Now President Bush declared Friday that the national anthem should be sung in English — not Spanish. Bush said, "One of the things that's very important is, when we debate this issue, that we not lose our national soul." This Blogger is not sure what planet our national leaders are on, but our national soul has been ripped apart over the past 5 years by war, poverty, immigration, voting irregularities, and lackluster leadership at the White House and in the United States Congress.
I remember when Marvin Gaye sang the National Anthem at an NBA basketball game, and African-Americans loved it while many whites decried it. Jose Feliciano and Luther Vandross have given soul to it. While Whitney Houston lip-synched it at a superbowl. How about Jimmy Hendricks guitar version? That was old school.
OK, lets's get an anti lip-synching the national anthem debate going. Get over it folks many children in America, (for that matter adults), don't know the words to the national anthem. Do you? According to a recent Harris Poll, about two-thirds of Americans don’t know all of the words or even the origin of the song that became America's National Anthem. Let's keep it moving with real debate about real issues like peace not war, eradication of poverty, immigration reform, gasoline price reductions, and voting rights for the District of Columbia. |
